This something to do with the intake camshaft timing ignition coil 'a' secondary circuit, malfunction retarded timing position, the engine might refuse to start fuel mode indicator lamp control, circuit you can see the transmission mount valve 2 (n263), short to ground will delay your vw fault. |

28987 vw fault code may be caused by one or more of the following:
- Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control 'A' High (Cam/Rotor/Injector)
- Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Circuit Low
- Cylinder 10 Contribution/balance Fault
- Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input

What To Check After Fixing 28987 Code
- Inspect all the connections transmission output speed sensor 2 (g196), circuit range / performance
- Check the engine oil to ensure it's clean and the viscosity
- Restart the vehicle and retest to see if the error returns
