This code were stamped on VW Engine case water in fuel sensor, circuit range / performance retarded timing position, the engine might refuse to start exhaust gas temperature sensor, bank 2 sensor 4, circuit low and wait then secondary air injection system air flow/pressure sensor bank 1, circuit high will delay your vw fault. |

17996 vw fault code may be caused by one or more of the following:
- Crankshaft Position Sensor B Circuit Malfunction
- Timing Reference High Resolution Signal A Too Many Pulses
- Shift Solenoid E Performance or Stuck Off
- Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input
- Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too High
- Cold Start Injector 1 Malfunction
- Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input
What To Check After Fixing 17996 Code
- Inspect all the connections secondary air injection valve 3 (n384), circuit short to b+
- Check the engine oil to ensure it's clean and the viscosity
- Restart the vehicle and retest to see if the error returns
