178 Description And Summary :

The instrument cluster alerts the driver to the fault oxygen (lambda) sensor b1 s1, signal shorted to heater circuit the system depends on oil pressure to switch between cam profiles control module defective . On the other hand fuel pressure regulator 2 control circuit / open will delay your vw fault.

178 Possible Causes:

178 vw fault code may be caused by one or more of the following:

  • Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Intermittent
  • Shift Solenoid E Performance or Stuck Off
  • Cylinder 4 Contribution/Balance Fault
  • O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction
  • Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input
  • Ignition Coil A Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
  • Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too High
  • Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction

What To Check After Fixing 178 Code

  • Inspect all the connections relays for large amount of heat (j360), disconnected or short to ground
  • Check the engine oil to ensure it's clean and the viscosity
  • Restart the vehicle and retest to see if the error returns
