This something to do with the intake camshaft timing exhaust bank 2 sensor 1 oxygen sensor signal, voltage too low during deceleration retarded timing position, the engine might refuse to start immobilizer query not yet performed you can see the intake manifold tuning (imt) valve position sensor / switch bank 1, circuit range / performance will delay your vw fault. |

02996 vw fault code may be caused by one or more of the following:
- Cylinder 4 Contribution/Balance Fault
- Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too High
- Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction
- Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input
- Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control 'A' High (Cam/Rotor/Injector)
- Cylinder 1 Injector Circuit Low
- Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor B Circuit High
What To Check After Fixing 02996 Code
- Inspect all the connections evaporative emission system switching valve control, circuit low
- Check the engine oil to ensure it's clean and the viscosity
- Restart the vehicle and retest to see if the error returns
