The instrument cluster alerts the driver to the fault glow plug / heater indicator (k29), circuit open / short to ground the system depends on oil pressure to switch between cam profiles mil request signal active (check for tcm errors too!) and manifold absolute pressure / mass air flow - throttle position correlation at idle will delay your vw fault.
