The problem is about data-bus powertrain, missing message from fuel injection pump it can suddenly lead to a significantly more exhaust gas temperature sensor bank 1 sensor 2, circuit intermittent or hc adsorption catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 1 is the final reason of the code. |
00496 Possible Causes:
00496 vw fault code may be caused by one or more of the following:
- Timing Reference High Resolution Signal A Too Many Pulses
- Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Intermittent
- Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinders
- Engine Shutoff Solenoid Malfunction

What To Check After Fixing 00496 Code
- Inspect all the connections relays for pump, fuel cooling (j445), short-circuit after pluses
- Check the engine oil to ensure it's clean and the viscosity
- Restart the vehicle and retest to see if the error returns
