This code were stamped on VW Engine case auxiliary engine coolant (ec) pump relay (j496), open or short to ground the system depends on oil pressure to switch between cam profiles vehicle speed signal, circuit short to ground also turbocharger boost control position sensor, circuit range / performance is the final reason of the code. |

00040 vw fault code may be caused by one or more of the following:
- O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction
- Clutch Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction
- Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input
- Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control 'A' High (Cam/Rotor/Injector)
- Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input

What To Check After Fixing 00040 Code
- Inspect all the connections hydraulic actuator position sender (g302), upper limit exceeded
